Navigating Relationships During a Pandemic

Hey there my friend!

I want to share something with you that has been on my mind and heart a lot recently and something that I have worked on with many of my one on one coaching clients.

During these times of pandemic, the levels of stress, anxiety, fear, confusion, and conflict are at an all time high. It seems as though everything has become so polarized and any conversation quickly turns into debate and conflict.

How can we better navigate relationships during such a crazy time?

There is something very important to understand.

Most people at this time are living in a state in which their nervous system is overstimulated and stuck in a “sympathetic” fight or flight response.

This essentially means they are in “survival mode.” Anytime someone is in survival mode, they always revert back to doing what they’ve always done, thinking what they’ve always thought, and believing what makes them feel “safe and secure.”

In this state, anything that differs from their “default mode” is a threat to their survival. Therefore, the bandwidth in which that person is able to receive any information that is new or different from their current belief system is shut down. Doing so would overload their nervous system even more.

Trying to present that person with a different perspective or opinion is like walking right onto the tracks of an oncoming train of ego with nobody at the steering wheel.

Therefore, from my own experience learning the hard way, my mantra has now become, “Don’t change their mind. Shift their state.” Once their state is shifted and their nervous system is well balanced, their bandwidth to receive something new begins to open. Now we can mindfully engage in a productive way.

Also, if we are the ones who are overstimulated, it is important that we have tools, practices, and techniques to balance ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally.

That is what my 21 day online program is all about! Healing the Mind: A Journey to Wholenessis one of the most comprehensive, integrative, and holistic approaches to mental emotional health, balance, and well being.
